OUR MISSIONARY WORK IN GHANA-AFRICA
Word Power Foundation Ministry strongly believes in executing and living by its core values. Giving back is one of them, which is why our church has embarked on operation Mission in Action: An urgent drive to offer care and support for the aged and elderly in Africa -Ghana.
As Africa’s population grows, so does the number of older people. Traditionally, extended families have taken care of elderly members but that’s now changing, meaning aging Africans are facing new problems.
The United Nations Population Fund estimates that, in every 26 seconds of a day, an elderly person dies from the lack of appropriate care. Also, around 50 million people above the age of 60 account for about five percent of Sub-Saharan Africa’s population. In the past, most of them turned to their families for help but that practice is becoming less widespread.
The worsening plight of the elderly can be seen in the streets of cities all across Ghana. What would have been unthinkable just a decade ago has become a fact of daily life. Growing numbers of old people have become beggars or homeless derelicts, wandering around in apparent confusion at the modern buildings sprouting up and the cars and lorries whizzing by them. The skills and knowledge that once earned them respect and esteem in the traditional rural setting are no longer relevant in the cash economy. The cultural gap between the young, educated by Western-style schools, and the elderly, linked to tradition, is widening.
These seniors have been neglected for years in Africa-Ghana. Upon these neglects, Word Power Foundation Ministry is carrying out this mission. Though in a very small way, we hope to expand to other parts of Africa.
We are currently involved in:
- Building basic structures to enable these seniors in Kasoa, a suburb of the Greater Accra Region and Akim-Oda in the Eastern Region of Ghana to worship God first and to up lift their spirits.
- Providing food for the aged and elderly on monthly basis, which is not enough, but we have the desire to do more.
- Putting up play grounds to engage them in exercises, both physically and mentally.
- Providing clothing and organizing different programs to help them become healthier and stronger.
Luke 6:38 Give to others, and God will give to you. Indeed, you will receive a full measure, a generous helping, poured into your hands—all that you can hold. The measure you use for others is the one that God will use for you.”
We would like to formally invite you to join us, partner with us or contribute towards the fulfillment of this great and wonderful mission.
Ways to Contribute, Participate or Partner with us
- By taking a vacation trip with us to Africa-Ghana; you could be a government official, student, business personnel, celebrity etc. who has the dream to be in Africa.
- By taking a missionary tour to the mission field with us to Africa-Ghana; this is designed for individuals such as Bible School students on a missionary project, a Pastor, elder, Deacon, Deaconess or whoever has a passion for this work in Africa.
Note: We will provide you with accommodation while taking care of all your personal and family needs, should you decide to travel with them. During this trip, you will also have the opportunity to experience the great historical and tourist sites Ghana has to offer. Finally, you will in turn help or contribute towards the mission.
